Fiverr.com is one of the best places to make money online. Founded in 2010 by Micha Kaufman and Shai Wininger, today its grown to be one of the best places for businesses to find creative and professional talent. Fiverr is essentially a Freelance services marketplace where you can find on demand freelance services(like graphic design, writing, video editing, audio voiceovers….etc) for your own business needs. This is one of the best places for outsourcing and hiring overseas or even domestic talent. Today, lots of businesses use Fiverr.com to find creative talent.
Did you know that there are people who are able to make over $30,000 to $40,000 Dollars per month on Fiverr.com?.
Sure it sounds too good to be true!, but its real. However, you should be worried about their income. These are essentially the top players on Fiverr who have grinded on the platform for several years to reach this level of income.
What we are really interested in is whether or not, if we can make an extra $500 to $1000 per month on Fiverr.com. Yes, its possible to make an extra $500 to $1000 dollars on Fiverr, but for that it’s going to take time and most importantly, hard work and bits of clever tips and tricks to reach that goal.
Just to motivate you guys, I’ll show you my own Fiverr income that I have made over the past several months.

As you can see, I use a lot of Freelance services on Fiverr.com because I just love the platform. It easy to find freelancers and creative talent. But, if you are able to build yourself on Fiverr, you can consistently make good income from the platform.
For me, I have been able generate between $300 to $1200 Dollars from Fiverr and its really good income considering the fact that you are making some extra income on the side.
To be honest, yes it did take time and the first 10 customers were the hardest to get. It took me about 3 to 5 months to get my first 10 customers. After that, things became a little easier and the Fiverr Algorithm finally recognized my service and featured it on their platform.
So, what’s the big deal here on Fiverr. The big reason why most people are not able to make money on
Fiverr.com is due to too much competition. Most importantly, people try their best to get 3 to 4 clients and after that, they just give up!.
And I completely understand because it’s demotivating and its difficult, so people giving up is a normal thing. But’s here’s what you need to understand that, if you aren’t making money on Fiverr, you’re not trying enough, and there’s still room for people to make it on Fiverr.
In fact, there are some techniques that can actually help you make money on Fiverr and today in this article, I will show you exactly how you can also make money on Fiverr.
Understanding the Fiverr Algorithm
Just like today, technology has developed to such an extend that Google Search is one of the smartest search engines on the planet. It knows what you are searching for and what search results to show you.
Similarly, the Fiverr platform also has it’s own algorithm. While, no body knows how the algorithm really works, some people have figured how Fiverr ranks gigs. This mainly comes through experience and just observing several failed and successful gigs.
From my own experience, what I noticed is that Fiverr essentially ranks Gigs based on Star Ratings.

However, over the years they have taken it further by introducing Private Feedback. Essentially, after Fiverr Gig or Order is completed, the Buyer is sent a message from Fiverr.com that looks like this.

This feedback is only shown to the buyer who will manually choose to rate a seller’s service. This data is private and is only sent to the Fiverr Team. This directly tells us that, your success on Fiverr.com directly depends on your customers and the quality of work you deliver to them.
Similarly, Star ratings are also very important. If you are just starting out on Fiverr, you’ll need to make sure that you get a 5 Star rating from your customer. The more 5 Star ratings you get, the better you chances of ranking first on the search page of Fiverr.

Here’s my ratings from my Fiverr gig and as you can see, it’s pretty difficult to keep up with getting 5 Stars constantly. There will be customers who will get disappointed and it’s during these times, you cannot afford to make mistakes. Handling customers in a polite and gentle way is very important.
Because as long as you get high ratings on your gig, you’ll can sit back and relax as your gig is sure to get featured and get ranked on the Fiverr search.
How to get Started on Fiverr as a Seller?
To get started on Fiverr, first you’ll need to go to Fiverr.com and create an account there. Once you entered all your details and created an account, you can easily create a gig and become a seller on Fiverr. You don’t need application or approval as you can directly become a seller.
Making money on Fiverr involves first, creating your seller profile. You’ll need to add a description about yourself, your profession as to what you do and what services you offer.
The next step is finally creating your Fiverr gig. Gigs on Fiverr are essentially micro job services that buyers can see and if they want your services, they’ll buy your gig.
To Create your Gig you’ll need to go to the seller section on Fiverr.
Then you need to click on Gigs and then Create a new gig.
It’s a fairly easy process and it just takes a couple of minutes to do it.

However, before you move forward with the Gig Creation process, please do read the article and then create your gig. As below, I will be discussing some imporant things that can actually help you create a well optimized gig that buyers will want to buy.
Analyzing Competition in your Category
The next important thing is analyzing competition. Just like any other marketplaces, there is high demand for certain services on Fiverr. For example, the Writing service is one of the most popular categories on Fiverr. You’ll find lots of buyers who want high quality writing service but with such high demand, there is also high competition. Which means, if you are able to make it in the Writing category, you can make a lot of money.
However, due to the high competition, it will be very difficult to have your gig featured on Fiverr for copywriting services and that can mean less sales or no sales at all for a long time, until you build yourself.
So, how do you choose the right service or category to make money from?
Firstly, you should do and offer what you are good at. However, I’ve seen many people make the mistake of going to broad on service selection.
For example, if you are a writer or you want to offer writing services. Many people what they do is they just pick the entire writing niche and go too broad. This way, you’re immediately attracting competition and sure, if you’re willing to grind, you can make it in the broad niche as well, but it comes with a cost and that is it takes a lot of time. Take a look at the following writing services from Fiverr for the search term “Write a Blog”.

As you can see, some of the sellers are going too broad. For example, the first one has a writing gig “I will write attractive blogs and articles”.
Generally, this a very difficult way to start any gig on Fiverr. As when people search for writing services, they will naturally move towards those gigs that have higher sales and star ratings.
This means if you niche down or choose a smaller category under the same category, you’ll find better chances of ranking and getting your gig visible to the buyers.
Take a look at the following Gig services for the search term “Gardening articles”.

Notice that there are over 90,000 gigs or sellers who are offering general Writing Services.
While, there are only 177 services available for Gardening Article Gigs. That’s a huge difference and I can only imagine, how easy it will be to get sales in the Gardening niche, rather than going too broad.
Similarly, you can do the same thing for other categories.
If you are a Voice over artist, a general search for “voiceovers” on Fiverr has over 23,000 gigs or sellers. However, if we niche down and choose a smaller category which can be “Voice over movies”, we gradually reduce the competition to just 2000 sellers.

Do you see where we are getting here? – Just by doing this, you increase you chances of getting more sales and customers easily.
Finding your First 10 Customers
If you haven’t created your gig yet, don’t worry, I’ll leave a small guide on how you can easily create your gig. However, even more important than that is finding customers on Fiverr. It tough, demotivating and one of the hardest things to do on Fiverr.
But the moment you break that 10 customers barrier, things get much better after that.
How to get your first 10 customers on Fiverr? – The answer is simple, use all your networks, find any people from your friend circle to family and work mates, essentially, you’ve got to grind your way to reach this level. This is where most people give up.
If you’ve just started your gig and you aren’t getting any sales, it just means you will not get any sales in the future as well. In fact, you may not get any sales at all and eventually you will have to close your gig.
This is where, you need to really take action and talk to people and find customers. Because, if you don’t reach the 10 customer mark, it’s hard for Fiverr to feature you, while, buyers generally don’t buy from a gig that no one has bought either.
Here are some of the ways which can help you get your first 10 customers on Fiverr:
- Friends & Family: Literally, your friends and family can be your first 2 to 3 customers. Tell them about your gig and make them purchase it. It’s easy, and it helps your gig get rolling. For me personally, I told my 3 friends to buy my gig and of course, it was just casual. But this works and it really helps Fiverr pick your gig.
- Share your service on Quora: If you don’t know about Quora, Quora is essentially a forum where people ask questions and they also answer. There are tons of people looking for various kinds of answers to their questions, while they are also looking for services. Go to the forum, answer their questions and share your service.
- Post your services on Facebook Groups: The app that you use everyday is actually one of the biggest marketing tools you can ever use. Facebook Groups are awesome because they are millions of them and you can easily post your Fiverr gig services on such groups. Some of my first customers directly came from these groups and till today, they have remained as a customer.
- Lastly, you can also use Reddit: Reddit is another great place to find customers for your Fiverr Gig. Definitely give a shot to Reddit and share your services on different groups.
Now, I know, it’s going to be a long hustle and it may take a lot of time for you to reach that 10 customer mark. However, reaching that 10 customer mark is very important and even after a month or 2, you haven’t reached that goal, then there’s a trick that many Fiverr seller use to combat the Fiverr Algorithm. While, this isn’t a sound practice, but initially if you are struggle to gain customer, you can create fake orders on Fiverr by create 2 to 3 different Fiverr Accounts and buy yourself, you own gig.
Do note that, you just cannot buy the entire 10 orders, and buy it in one day. But over a period of 1 month, you can buy 2 to 3 orders per month from your additional Fiverr Accounts. This can help you get 2 to 3 extra sales on your Fiverr gig.
While, we do not know, if this helps with the Fiverr Algorithm, but having those higher sales numbers and Star Ratings on your Fiverr gig will definitely help you get more customers in the future.

If you are having trouble choosing your service category, here’s a list of top 6 service categories that you may want to see and have a look at. 6. Web Design and Development

- Demand – Very high
- Niche down – Required
Web Design and Development is a very popular category on Fiverr. There is tons of demand for it and people and businesses are always looking for talents who can design and develop their websites. The main reason being, these people or businesses either lack the skills or don’t have time to design a site, therefore, they often hover around Fiverr to find such services for a cheaper cost. Typically, if a business needs to hire a web designer or developer, most agencies charge between $1000 to $10,000 dollars. However, on Fiverr, they can find and hire talents for micro-jobs for a cheaper and much affordable price. So, Web Design and development is a very attractive category and if you have the background of computer science or have some knowledge in web design, you can definitely opt to offer these services.
5. Graphic Design
- Pricing – $10 – $500
- Competition – Very High
- Demand – Very High
- Niche Down – Required
Graphic Design is another attractive category where there is always high demand. But with high demand, there is also very tuff competition. Essentially, people and businesses are always looking for graphic designers and if you have the skills to design, you can definitely opt for this gig. The good news is that, there are lots of smaller categories under Graphic Design like Logo design, brochure design, posters, and email template and many more. Niching down will definitely help combat the high competition under this category.
4. Writing
- Pricing – $10 – $500
- Competition – Extremely High
- Demand – Extremely High
- Niche Down – Required
Writing is an evergreen Category on Fiverr where the demand for writers will never go down. The entire digital marketing industry needs content to be written on a constant basis and writing is a type of service that can really help you make lots of money. However, with high demand, there is tons of competition. Unless, if you are a writer or if you are serious about offering writing services, I do not recommend going down the writing category. If you niche down to smaller categories, then there’s definitely lots of scope for getting customers.
3. Voice Overs
- Pricing – $10 – $1000
- Competition – Very High
- Demand – Very High
- Niche Down – Required
The Voice Over category is another popular category of services on Fiverr. Lots of scope for making money yet, there is also lots of competition here. Niching down is very important and if you can find a smaller category under this niche, it will be much better.

Pricing – $10 – $1000
Competition – Very High
Demand – Very High
Niche Down – Required
Translation is another big category and surprisingly, there are lots of sellers in this category too. Lots of scope for making money and much easier to niche down. If you know multiple languages, you can easily offer translation services for different people and businesses.
1. Product Photography
Pricing – $50 – $5000
Competition – Medium
Demand – High
Niche Down – Required
Product Photography is a very strong category for making money. Particularly because, yes, there is competition and there are lots of sellers in this category, but if you niche down, you reduce the competition by a huge amount. Product photography is mainly regional, which means if you live in the USA or a specific city, you’ll only find a few photographers having their gig up in that area. Which means, it’s easy to find buyers as they would normally ship the product to your location.
